Kitchen Countertop Trends and Design Ideas for 2020

2020 is on the horizon, and with the new year comes new ideas and looks to match any personal preference. Today, we’re focusing on our wheelhouse: countertops. (But with a few bonus ideas here and there!) Here are our favorite kitchen countertop trends and design ideas to consider if you’re remodeling in 2020:

1| Crisp Quartz

Quartz continues to be popular with homeowners as we enter 2020. Many are opting to keep countertops as bare as possible to allow the material to truly speak for itself.

2| Pretty Pastels

InteriorZine predicts that soft, delicate hues like pink and mint green will be hot in 2020 and 2021. What do you think? Are you into this retro-meets-modern look? We love pastels paired with neutral white quartz or granite, plus a simple farmhouse sink and graphic touches.

3| Dramatic Veining

Veining varies by piece of granite, marble, and quartz, which is why homeowners and designers love it so much right now. Each piece is unique and adds a truly original look to your space—along with bold visual appeal that echoes food photography trends.

4| The 5th Wall

As HGTV describes, homeowners and interior designers are painting kitchen ceilings in addition to the four walls. This adds extra height and interest to your space, especially when you pick dark or vibrant colors.

5| Wondrous Wallpaper

Wallpaper will be more “ooh!” than “aah!” in 2020, especially with stylish peel-and-stick designs that aren’t quite permanent, but look just as great as the real thing. Country Living suggests trying a tile look if you’re not going with floral like the above example.

6| Reclaimed Wood Cabinets

Nothing adds history and dimension to a kitchen like reclaimed wood, especially if that wood has a story. Trend-setters are using reclaimed wood for countertops, backsplashes on walls and islands, cabinets, and much more, as we see in this example from Decoist.

7| Texture on Texture

If you’re afraid of too much color in your kitchen, Country Living suggests mixing and matching finishes and textures. Combine different kinds of metal in matte and glossy finishes, and add in different kinds of wood to really refine your space.
