Laundry Room Renovation Ideas

Sneakers, dirty jerseys, backpacks, purses, dog leashes … the laundry room often does more than just store your washer and dryer. For many people, the laundry room acts as a sort of catch-all, a hybrid of laundry and mud room that sees a ton of traffic.

But, just because the laundry room works hard doesn’t mean it can’t be beautiful. That’s why we’ve created this list of laundry room design and renovation ideas for those who want a truly stylish and efficient space.

Idea #1: Get Wild

When you list the most enjoyable rooms in your home, does the laundry room come first? There’s absolutely no reason why you can’t turn your laundry room into the most eye-catching room in the house. Play with quirky message boards, put up wallpaper, experiment with vintage light fixtures and art … do whatever your wild heart desires.

Idea #2: Try a Galley Setup

Help your space do double duty by using walls opposite one another for all your storage, clothes racks, and more. This works especially well for narrow rooms.

Idea #3: Add a Little Pop Through Appliances

The washer and dryer are the stars of the laundry room, so why not let them take center stage? Try playing with colorful appliances to add dimension to your space. Samsung carries washers in cool Azure Blue and a delicate Champagne pink shade, but there are tons of options to choose from.

Idea #4: Update the Countertops

This room’s surfaces need to be extremely durable, so we recommend quartz for your laundry room countertops. Quartz is non-porous, low-maintenance, easy to clean, requires no sealing, is resistant to stains and scratches, and stays crisp and beautiful for years.

Idea #5: Replace the Floors

Laundry rooms and mudrooms experience a ton of foot traffic, dirt, and spills, so they need to be easy to clean and sturdy. Many sources recommend luxury vinyl, as it mimics the look of more expensive flooring but is waterproof, scratch-resistant, and can withstand moisture.

Idea #6: Add Storage

A well-organized laundry room will make chores feel easier and keep your stress level down. And, there are so many beautiful and easy ways to get organized whether you’re a DIYer or someone who calls on a contractor to help.

This idea stacks the machines, adds a cute laundry sink, uses wall space for a drying rack, and leverages height to incorporate tons of hidden storage. We love the rich color palette, too.

This idea uses simple shelving at the same height as the washer and dryer to store laundry baskets, making sorting whites and colors a breeze. This setup also supports a spacious folding surface.
