Understanding Edging for Countertops: Granite and Quartz

We might be biased, but a good granite or quartz countertop is the cherry on the top of a beautiful kitchen. There’s a lot of different aspects to consider when picking this essential piece of your space, from size and color to texture and sheen. But, did you know? The edging on your countertop makes a difference!

Here’s your guide to understanding edging for countertops so you can make the best choice!

Types of Countertop Edge Profiles

Square (Eased) Edging

Perhaps the most popular edging for countertops is the “square” or “eased” style. Though it’s referred to that way, it’s not perfectly square, as sharp right angles would be dangerous and easy to chip. This style imitates right angles, though, by using slightly rounded (or eased) corners and a straight side profile. Square edging works with any design style, and is well-suited for modern decor.

Bevel Edging

Countertop experts think of this style as a traditional one, but it essentially means that the top corner is cut at a 45-degree angle. There are styles that include two bevels (double bevel) and even styles that use different shapes of bevels at different angles.

Bullnose Edging

Bullnose, or rounded edging is just that: rounded entirely. This style offers any space a luxurious, smooth look and feel. And, without any sharp corners or harsh edges, bullnose edging is great for families with kids and pets.

Demi-Bullnose Edging

Also thought of as a half bullnose, this style uses a rounded, bullnose profile on the top and a flat, or square edge on the bottom.
